Coral Gables has among the strictest signage regulations in South Florida under Zoning Code Section 11-109. Business signs in residential districts are effectively prohibited. Temporary noncommercial signs are limited to one per property, maximum 22 by 28 inches, and must be set back 5 feet from property lines and the public right-of-way.
Zoning Code Section 11-109 establishes comprehensive sign regulations that promote safety by avoiding visual clutter and traffic distractions. In residential districts, commercial business signage is not permitted, making home business signs effectively prohibited. Temporary noncommercial signs are limited to one per building, lot, or tenant space, maximum 22 by 28 inches, set back at least 5 feet from the public right-of-way and 5 feet from front and side property lines. Signs may not exceed 120 days of display. During election periods (90 days before through 5 days after elections), up to two additional temporary noncommercial signs are permitted for a total of three. Signs placed on public right-of-way may be removed by the city. The Board of Architects reviews all proposed signage for commercial properties.
Unauthorized signs are removed by the city without notice if on public right-of-way. Code Enforcement citations for non-compliant signs on private property. Fines up to $500 for repeat violations. Contact Code Enforcement at (305) 460-5216.
