Eden Prairie, MN Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 11.65, Subdivision 2 of the Eden Prairie City Code sets the terms under which a home based business can operate out of a dwelling. The business must be run inside the home itself, not in a garage or detached accessory structure, and may occupy no more than twenty-five percent of the dwelling. Only members of the resident family plus one non-resident employee may work there, and customer-facing hours run 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Traffic generated by the business is capped at ten trips per dwelling per day, and parking for employees, visitors and invitees is limited to four spaces, none of it on public or private streets.

Deliveries are restricted to straight-axle vehicles, two trips a day, during the same 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. window. The signage allowance sits inside this same list of conditions: Subdivision 2.N permits one exterior sign of no more than one square foot for the dwelling, plus two signs of one square foot each on any vehicle tied to the business. No retail or wholesale sales activity may be conducted on the premises except by phone, mail, internet or other electronic medium, and no non-vehicular motor over one horsepower may be operated or tested on site. These standards apply uniformly across every district where home occupations are allowed: R, R-1, RM, MU, TOD-R, TOD-MU, TC-MU and TC-R.
