Under Fort Waynes Unified Development Ordinance, home occupations may display at most one wall-mounted sign up to 2 square feet with non-illuminated lettering. Sandwich boards, freestanding yard signs, and lighted or backlit signs are prohibited for home occupations in residential zoning districts. The restriction preserves residential character and is consistent with the citys UDO sign schedule. Real estate and political signs have their own rules and are not treated as home-business signage. Commercial vehicles parked at the residence that display business lettering are permitted so long as vehicle-parking rules are followed, but a wrapped vehicle sitting permanently in a driveway can be treated as signage if the zoning inspector determines it functions as advertising. Temporary banners, strings of lights, and flags promoting the business are not allowed.
