Lewisville zoning ordinance prohibits exterior signage for home occupations. No signs advertising a home-based business may be displayed on the property, vehicle, or in the yard. The residence must retain its residential character.
Under Lewisville Code of Ordinances Chapter 14 (Zoning), home occupations must not alter the external appearance of the residence in any way that indicates a business is being conducted. This prohibition includes all forms of exterior signage: yard signs, window signs, door placards, banners, flags with business logos, and illuminated signs. Vehicles with commercial wraps or signage may be parked at the residence but the vehicle itself does not constitute a sign under the code; however, large commercial vehicles with prominent advertising may trigger code complaints about commercial use in a residential zone. The city sign ordinance (Chapter 12.5) governs all signage citywide and does not provide an exception for home-based businesses in residential zones. Business cards, online advertising, and web presence are not affected by the sign prohibition since they do not alter the physical appearance of the property. Any signage found on a residential property advertising a business is subject to removal by Code Compliance.
Unauthorized signage: fine up to $500 per sign. Sign may be ordered removed within a specified timeframe. Repeated violations may result in revocation of home occupation permission.
