Home occupations in Lubbock may not display exterior signs advertising the business in most residential zones. The home must retain its residential appearance without commercial signage, window displays, or illuminated signs.
Lubbock Zoning Ordinance Chapter 40 requires home occupations to be conducted in a manner that does not alter the residential character of the neighborhood, which generally means no exterior commercial signage. In most single-family zones, signs advertising a home-based business are prohibited β including yard signs, window decals visible from the street, wall signs, and A-frame sidewalk signs. Small professional identification plates (doctor, lawyer) may be allowed in some districts under very limited dimensions (typically 1-2 square feet, non-illuminated) but are uncommon. Vehicle signage on a personal vehicle parked at the home is generally allowed if the vehicle is a passenger vehicle used for normal personal use. Commercial vehicles with business wraps parked overnight may violate separate commercial vehicle parking rules. Violations trigger Code Enforcement action similar to other sign code infractions.
Sign removal order, up to 500 dollars per day fine, escalating for repeated violations.
