Palm Beach Gardens, FL Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 78-159(j)(1), the Table 21 note governing home-based businesses, addresses signage in two places. Subsection g requires that 'business activities must comply with any relevant state regulations and city codes with respect to signage and equipment or processes that create noise, vibration, heat, smoke, dust, glare, fumes, or noxious odors for the residential zoning district in which the property is located,' folding sign compliance into the same clause as noise and odor limits. Subsection i then removes any doubt about on-site advertising for a home occupation specifically: 'On-premise signs or other advertising of home-based businesses are prohibited.' The prohibition applies citywide across every residential district where Table 21 permits a home occupation, from AR through RMH, and it is not limited to freestanding yard signs; window signs, door placards, and other on-site advertising fall under the same 'or other advertising' language.

This stands in contrast to the general commercial sign standards in division 6 of article V, which allow monument and wall signage for businesses operating from nonresidential property; the home-based business note deliberately withholds that allowance because the whole premise of a home occupation is that it produces 'no external evidence of the nonresidential use,' per the definition at § 78-751. A home business can still advertise off-site, through a website, print ads, or listings, since the prohibition is specifically about signs and advertising displayed on the residential premises itself.
