Rialto bans all on-site display and advertising for home occupations except a single non-illuminated nameplate no larger than one square foot. Advertising that identifies the home's street address is also prohibited, except in telephone directories and on business cards.
RMC 5.68.110(A)(11) limits home occupation signage to one nameplate of no more than one square foot identifying the proprietor or business name and profession. The nameplate must be attached to a permanent structure, may not be located within the front-yard setback, and must be non-illuminated. RMC 5.68.110(A)(12) goes further: no advertising may identify the home occupation by street address, with the only exceptions being telephone directory listings and business cards. Citywide sign standards in RMC Chapter 18.102 (Regulation of Signs and Advertising Structures) continue to apply to any signage. These restrictions are conditions of the home occupation permit, so a violating sign puts the permit itself at risk.
An unlawful sign violates the conditions of the home occupation permit and Chapter 5.68, an infraction carrying a 200 to 500 dollar fine per offense with each day a separate offense (RMC 5.68.170); the planning commission may also revoke the permit (RMC 5.68.150).
