58(5) allows home occupations and professional home offices in residential districts without a conditional use permit, provided the business stays incidental to the home (no more than 25% of one floor), uses no accessory structure, employs only resident family members, and avoids outdoor storage. The same subsection sets the advertising limit: an unlighted sign no larger than one square foot in area, attached flat against the building, is the only signage a home business may use to identify itself. There is no allowance for a yard sign, a window sign beyond that footprint, string lighting, or an internally lit panel; anything larger or illuminated falls outside the home-occupation exemption entirely.

The same provision also bars structural alterations that are not customary in a dwelling and requires that the entrance to the space devoted to the home business be from within the dwelling, not a separate exterior door added for the business. 58(6), Home Industries, which lets the Plan Commission approve larger-scale home businesses through a conditional use permit and public hearing, carries the identical one-square-foot, unlighted, flat-mounted sign limit, so upgrading to a Home Industry designation does not unlock bigger signage. A resident whose home business needs more visibility than a one-square-foot placard has to look to the City's general commercial sign standards elsewhere in Chapter 22, which do not apply to a home occupation.
