Amarillo allows home occupations in residential zoning districts as accessory uses. Home businesses must be secondary to the residential use, conducted within the dwelling, and not change the neighborhood character.
Under Amarillo's zoning ordinance (Chapter 4-10), home occupations are permitted as accessory uses in residential districts. The business must be conducted entirely within the dwelling and be clearly incidental to the residential use. No exterior evidence of the business is allowed other than a small permitted sign. The business must not generate excessive traffic, noise, or activity beyond what is normal for a residential neighborhood. Only residents of the home may work in the business. Storage of commercial materials must be inside the home. Retail sales from the home are generally prohibited.
Home occupations violating zoning conditions may result in code enforcement citations and orders to cease the non-compliant business activity.
