The parish Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 40) lists home occupations as a permitted accessory use across residential districts, including S-1 Suburban (Sec. 40-77) and the RR-3 district (Sec. 40-217). Section 40-3 defines the term: 'Home occupation shall mean an occupation carried out by a resident within a dwelling unit, which is clearly incidental and secondary to the use of the dwelling unit for residential purposes.' The occupation must be conducted by a family member residing on the premises with no non-resident employees, use no more than fifteen (15) percent of the dwelling's floor area, and produce no exterior evidence of the business beyond a small nameplate. A home business that exceeds the incidental-use limits, employs non-residents, or shows commercial exterior evidence is a zoning violation enforced by the Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement, subject to correction orders and citations.
