Pearland's Unified Development Code allows home occupations as accessory uses in residential districts, provided the business remains incidental, conducted by residents, and produces no external evidence beyond a permitted small sign.
Under the Pearland UDC, a home occupation must be conducted entirely within the dwelling or an accessory structure, occupy a limited share of total floor area, and remain clearly secondary to residential use. Only residents of the dwelling plus a limited number of non-resident employees may work on-site. The activity may not generate noise, odors, vibration, glare, smoke, or electrical interference detectable beyond the property line. Outdoor storage of materials, stock-in-trade, or equipment used for the occupation is prohibited. A home occupation permit through Community Development is typically required prior to operating.
Operating a prohibited use, exceeding floor-area limits, or creating off-site impacts can trigger code enforcement notices, daily fines, and revocation of the home occupation permit.
