SCC 30.28.050 defines a home occupation as an occupation conducted within a dwelling unit by family members residing there, and in certain rural and resource zones it may also occur in an accessory building or attached garage. No more than one-fourth of the total square footage of the dwelling may be used for the occupation. Whether the use is allowed in a specific zone is verified through SCC 30.22.100–30.22.120. Resource-based and rural home occupations may use alternative provisions.
Operating a home occupation that exceeds SCC 30.28.050 limits or is not allowed in the zone can trigger code enforcement, corrective orders, and civil penalties under Title 30.
