Home occupation permit and city business license required; activity must be clearly incidental to residential use.
Per SJMC Title 5 (Business Licenses) and Title 17 (Zoning), every home-based business in South Jordan must obtain a city business license and a home occupation permit. The use must be conducted entirely within the dwelling or a permitted accessory structure, not visible from the street, and clearly incidental to the residential use. Maximum of 25% of the dwelling floor area may be devoted to the business. Utah Cottage Food operators (under Utah Code 4-5a) must register with UDAF in addition to obtaining the city license. Professional service businesses (accountants, consultants) generally qualify; manufacturing, auto repair, and kennels do not.
