Wyoming, MI Homelessness & Encampment Rules: Encampment Sanitation (2026)

Wyoming Code of Ordinances § 50-118, adopted as part of the Entry Upon Public Property ordinance and amended by Ord. No. , unless a government officer, employee or volunteer authorized to consent has given prior permission. The section defines camping as setting up or remaining in or at a campsite, and defines campsite as any place where bedding, sleeping bags or other bedding material, or a stove or other heating/cooking element, is placed to maintain a temporary place to live. Violations are municipal civil infractions with escalating fines: $50 for a first offense and $150 for a second offense; a third or later offense in the same calendar year becomes a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine up to $500.

Courts may also order compliance with the Code and impose conditions to prevent recurrence. Beyond the citation, the section gives the city an independent cleanup power: property left at the site, including vehicles, campers, trailers or other personal property, not removed within 24 hours of the citation may be impounded and disposed of by the city at the property owner's expense. This is the City of Wyoming, Michigan's own municipal ordinance in Kent County; it does not apply outside city limits and is separate from any Grand Rapids or Kent County provision.
