Sunrise treats grass, weeds, or untended growth over 10 inches as an overgrown-property nuisance. Owners get a notice; if not cut, the city abates the lot and bills the cost as a lien.
Sunrise's minimum property maintenance standards prohibit grasses, weeds, and other untended growth in excess of 10 inches on both occupied properties and vacant lots. The city's Community Enhancement and Code Compliance division (954-572-2344) enforces the rule, issuing a notice with a compliance deadline. If the owner does not cut and maintain the lot, a city contractor abates the overgrowth and the contracting and administrative costs are recorded as a lien against the property. Uncorrected violations may also be referred to the Special Magistrate for fines that continue rolling until every cited item is corrected. Florida's year-round growing season makes mowing a continuous obligation.
Notice with a compliance deadline. If not cut: city-contractor abatement billed as a lien, plus referral to the Special Magistrate for rolling daily fines until corrected.
