Marysville, WA Landscaping Rules: Rainwater Harvesting (2026)

Marysville, Washington doesn't require rainwater harvesting systems anywhere in its code. Instead, Chapter 14.19 MMC gives commercial property owners a financial incentive: any new or remodeled commercial building in the city that installs a "permissive rainwater harvesting system", one built to the Washington State Building Code Council's 2002 nonresidential guidelines, sized to capture at least 10 percent of the mean annual roof runoff, and approved by the public works director, qualifies for a minimum 10 percent reduction in its surface water utility rate. The director can approve a bigger discount if the system captures a larger share of the runoff from the parcel's total impervious surface. This program applies only inside Marysville city limits in Snohomish County; it has no bearing on unincorporated Snohomish County or the adjacent Tulalip Reservation, and it is separate from any Everett or Seattle program.
