Gardena regulates work on street trees under Gardena Municipal Code Chapter 13.60 (Trees, Shrubs and Plants), adopted by Ordinance 1675 in 2006. Section 13.60.030 gives the City jurisdiction and control over the selection, planting, location, pruning, maintenance, and removal of all trees on any public place, and jurisdiction over private-property trees to the extent they adversely impact adjoining public places. Under Section 13.60.080(B), no person, firm, or corporation - including utility companies - may cut, trim, prune, plant, remove, injure, or interfere with any tree, shrub, or plant upon any street or public place without a permit issued by the Public Works Director; the Director issues a separate Tree Trimming Permit under Section 13.60.080(A).
