Manteca Municipal Code Chapter 12.08 governs trees in street tree areas and public places. No person may cut, prune, or remove any street tree without permission from the Parks Director. Tree contractors must be licensed and carry minimum $1 million liability insurance.
MMC Chapter 12.08 requires City approval from the Parks & Recreation Director before any trimming, pruning, or removal of trees in street right-of-way or other public areas. Permits are valid for up to 30 days. Tree contractors working in city rights-of-way must hold a business license, a City permit, and carry commercial general liability insurance listing the city as additionally insured (minimum $1M aggregate, $2M per occurrence). For private property trees, the City Planning and Parks departments must be notified of construction or grade changes within the proximity of mature trees. A protective fence must be placed around the entire canopy area during construction.
Unauthorized removal or trimming of street trees: fines and replacement cost. Working without proper contractor permits: citation and work stoppage.
