Westchester County has no countywide weed ordinance. Municipal property-maintenance codes define noxious weeds. NYS ECL and Ag & Markets lists designate priority invasives for control.
Westchester County Code does not list noxious weeds for private property. Municipal property-maintenance codes (Yonkers, White Plains, Mount Vernon, and most towns) require owners to keep lots free of rank weeds and overgrowth, typically defined as vegetation above 10 inches or any state-listed invasive. NYS Ag & Markets Law Β§164 lists prohibited noxious weeds including giant hogweed, mile-a-minute, and Japanese knotweed. Property owners may be cited by municipal code enforcement.
Municipal notice to abate within 7-10 days; city cuts and liens property plus $100-$500 fine.
