Full Breakdown
CMC § 10.23.030 lets the public works director designate bicycle lanes with markings and signs where a highway's width and traffic volume support it. Once a lane is marked, operating a motor vehicle in it is unlawful except for the four listed purposes: crossing at a permanent or temporary driveway, parking where parking is allowed, a disabled vehicle, or preparing to make a turn at an intersection. Companion sections, §§ 10.23.040–.050, let the director also post signs restricting pedestrians from walking in a bike lane except to cross. Adopted by Ord. 91-23 § 1 (part), 1991.
Violations & Fines
Operating a motor vehicle in a marked bicycle lane outside the listed exceptions is a citable traffic infraction under CMC § 10.23.030(B), enforced by Chino police.
