Full Breakdown
Under the city's Micromobility System and Devices Ordinance (Chapter 86, art. IV), riders of e-bikes, e-scooters and other micromobility devices may use any bike lane, buffered bike lane or protected bicycle lane in Fort Myers unless a sign posts otherwise. The same section bars parking a micromobility device in a manner that blocks bicycle paths or vehicular travel lanes, along with fire hydrants, curb ramps, driveways and transit zones. Riders must yield to pedestrians and cannot ride on sidewalks in the downtown core; helmets are required under age 16. Traditional non-electric bicycle sidewalk riding is separately restricted downtown under § 86-1.
Violations & Fines
Operating or parking a micromobility device that blocks a bike lane, bicycle path or vehicle travel lane, or riding on a downtown sidewalk, is a code violation enforceable under Chapter 86 by city police.
