Pageland, SC Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

Section 32-139 of the Pageland Town Code, in Chapter 32's traffic offenses article, states that it shall be unlawful for any person to operate any bicycle or motorcycle in a reckless or dangerous manner on any public right-of-way, putting cyclists on the same footing as motorists under the reckless-driving standard in the preceding Section 32-138. A related sidewalk rule, Section 28-36 in Chapter 28 (Streets and Sidewalks), bars riding, propelling or parking any automobile, motorcycle, wheelbarrow, handcart or other vehicle upon any sidewalk, a category the code applies to bicycles as well, except when entering or leaving a building.

The section carves out one narrow exception: children under 12 may ride bicycles and tricycles on residential sidewalks, outside the main business district, at a speed less than 15 miles per hour. Outside that carve-out, and outside the sidewalk context altogether, a bicycle travels under Pageland's general street rules, including the reckless-operation ban in Section 32-139. 00, imprisonment of up to 30 days, or both, capped at whatever a comparable state-law offense allows, with each day of a continuing violation charged separately. The town code does not establish marked bike lanes or lane-specific obstruction rules; the operative controls on cyclists are the sidewalk restriction and the reckless-operation ban.
