Sarasota City Code Sec. 5 brake horsepower (Sec. 33-186), and applies "whenever a bicycle is operated upon any street or upon any public path set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles" (Sec. 33-187). Where no dedicated path exists, riders fall back on the roadway rules in Sec. 33-190: ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb, except when overtaking, preparing a left turn, or avoiding a hazard such as a substandard-width lane too narrow to share safely with a vehicle; on a one-way street with two or more marked lanes, a cyclist may instead ride near the left-hand curb.

Riders may travel two abreast, but not more, staying within a single lane and not impeding traffic moving at normal speed, except on a path or lane set aside exclusively for bicycles, where the cap doesn't apply (Sec. 33-191). On a sidewalk or crosswalk, a cyclist must yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing (Sec. 33-194), and while doing so carries all the rights and duties of a pedestrian (Sec. 33-195). Every bicycle operator is "subject to the provisions of traffic ordinances of the city and state laws applicable to the operator of any vehicle," apart from equipment provisions that don't apply to bikes (Sec.

33-188), so ignoring a marked bike path invites the same enforcement as any other moving violation. Chapter 33's general penalty section, Sec. S. Chapter 318 for offenses it covers, with Sec. 1-11's citywide default, up to a $500 fine, 60 days in jail, or both, plus a mandatory $100 contribution to the crime prevention fund on conviction, applying to conduct Chapter 318 doesn't reach.
