Chapter 175, Bicycles, adopted in 1979 as Chapter 31, Article IV of the prior code, sets the City's positioning rules for cyclists on the street rather than regulating a marked bicycle lane specifically, since the chapter predates the City's painted bike lanes. Section 175-3, Sidewalk riding prohibited, bars riding a bicycle on a sidewalk anywhere in the City. Section 175-4, Operation near right-hand curb; riding abreast, requires bicycles to be operated as close to the right-hand curb as conditions permit, and caps side-by-side riding at two bicycles abreast; three or more abreast is a violation.

Section 175-2 folds bicycles into the same rules that apply to any vehicle on City streets and alleys, covering both state statutes and City ordinances, except for provisions about vehicle equipment or provisions that by their nature cannot apply to a bicycle. Related equipment rules round out the chapter: Section 175-5 bars a cyclist from clinging to another moving vehicle, Section 175-6 bars carrying a passenger on the handlebar, frame or mudguard, and Section 175-7 requires a white front lamp visible 500 feet and a rear red reflector or light between sunset and sunrise. Section 175-8 requires a working horn or bell audible for 200 feet and bans sirens or whistles on a bicycle.
