Scranton, PA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Under § 445-26(C), Outdoor Storage, in the City of Scranton Zoning Ordinance, an RV, trailer, camper or mobile home cannot be parked or stored within the right-of-way of any public street, whether at the curb or on the shoulder. On the lot itself, the vehicle has to be parked entirely behind the front face of the principal building, the same line the house's own front wall sits on, unless it is completely screened from view by a sight-obscuring evergreen planting, fence, wall or gate. The section also flatly bars using a parked RV, trailer or camper as a dwelling at any time, even temporarily.

A companion zoning provision, § 445-44, reaches vehicles that are visible rather than just improperly located: within a residential district, no motor home, recreational vehicle, camper, bus or ambulance can be parked or stored where it is visible from a public street or an adjacent dwelling, on top of the separate rule that any vehicle or trailer without current registration and inspection is likewise barred from visible parking. Read together, the two sections mean a Scranton homeowner can keep an RV or boat trailer in a side or back yard, or in a driveway behind the house line, but not parked in front of the house or screened only by open sky from the street.
