Town Code § 137-19(C), added by Local Law No. " By naming only Class 2 (throttle-assisted) and Class 3 (throttle- or pedal-assisted up to higher speeds) e-bikes, the section leaves Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes, which the state defines separately, outside the ban and therefore treated as ordinary bicycles on Town paths. Subsection (A) folds every "traffic ordinance" into path use and requires riders to "obey instructions of official traffic-control devices applicable to vehicles unless otherwise directed by a police officer"; subsection (B) confines entry and exit to "designated spots only," so cutting onto a path mid-block is itself a separate violation; and subsection (D) gives hikers, snowshoers and cross-country skiers the right to use the paths but requires them to yield right-of-way to bicycles.

Because the ban is written into Chapter 137 (Parks and Recreation) rather than the Town's traffic code, it applies specifically to Town-designated bicycle paths and routes, not to public roads, where state Vehicle and Traffic Law governs e-bike classes instead. Enforcement runs through the Colonie Police Department and Parks and Recreation Department under § 137-32, and a violation carries the standard Chapter 137 fine and jail exposure in § 137-31.
