Fairfield, CT Mobility & Curb Rules: Red-Light Cameras (2026)

Article II of Chapter 102, adopted February 26, 2025, authorizes automated traffic enforcement safety devices (ATESDs) under C.G.S. § 14-307b at locations in school zones, pedestrian safety zones and other Town locations, contingent on a plan approved by the Connecticut Department of Transportation; the Representative Town Meeting exercised the adoption authority under C.G.S. § 14-307e as the Town's legislative body. Section 102-5 defines an ATESD as a device that photographs a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 or more mph or failing to stop at a steady red signal.

Section 102-9 makes the vehicle owner responsible for either violation, and the first 30 days after a device goes live at a location trigger only a written warning, not a citation. Under § 102-10, a sworn Police Department or Fairfield Traffic Authority member reviews the recorded images before a citation issues by first-class mail, and the citation must include the owner's name and address, the violation charged, the location, date and time, access to the recorded images, calibration verification, the fine amount and how to pay, and the right to a hearing under C.G.S. § 7-152c.

Citations must be mailed within 30 days of identifying the owner and are invalid if mailed more than 60 days after the violation. Vendors operating ATESDs cannot be paid based on the number of citations issued or fines collected, per § 102-7.
