Macon-Bibb County, GA Mobility & Curb Rules: Red-Light Cameras (2026)

Chapter 28, Article VI of the general code, adopted by Ord. No. § 40-14-18, authorizes Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices only within marked school zones, defined in Sec. 28-150(e) as the area within 1,000 feet of any public or private elementary or secondary school. There is no companion provision in the county code authorizing red-light cameras at traffic signals; the code's only automated photo-enforcement programs are this school-zone speed program and the separate Sec. 16-34 stopped-school-bus arm camera program. Under Sec. 28-151, the devices operate on school days when classes are in session, plus one hour before and one hour after, and a citation issues only when a vehicle exceeds the posted limit by more than ten miles per hour; no citation may be issued for the first thirty days after a device is placed in a school zone.

Every citation must be reviewed by a certified peace officer before it is mailed by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office or its agent. Sec. 00 processing fee; the citation is deemed noncriminal, carries no driver's license points, and is not reported to insurers. Contested citations go to the Macon-Bibb County Municipal Court under Sec. 28-153, and recorded images are exempt from the state Open Records Act under Sec. 28-156. Fine revenue is restricted under Sec. 28-157 to funding local law enforcement or public safety initiatives.
