Palatine, IL Mobility & Curb Rules: TNC Pickup Zones (2026)

Section 28-88 of the Village Code governs Palatine's designated passenger pick-up areas. Any area the village designates by ordinance as a taxicab stand or a ride-share stand is reserved for a licensed taxicab or a designated ride-share vehicle; no other vehicle may park there. Likewise, a place designated as a bus loading zone is reserved for buses, and no other vehicle may be parked there. The village clerk maintains a complete record of all designated passenger pick-up areas at Village Hall, so the exact locations of taxicab stands, ride-share stands, and bus zones are fixed by separate village ordinance rather than printed in the Code itself.

The director of public works is responsible under § 28-89 for posting signs at all such limited or prohibited parking areas, including these pick-up zones. A vehicle other than the authorized type parked in one of these designated areas is treated the same as any other prohibited-parking violation: it can be towed under § 28-90, with the towing cost and the parking fine due before release. The underlying fine for parking in a pick-up area without authorization defaults to the chapter's general penalty in § 28-32, not less than $25.00 nor more than $750.00.
