Wichita Municipal Code Sec. 5.63.010(b)(7) makes it a noise nuisance to create loud, excessive or unreasonable noise while loading or unloading a vehicle -- including delivery trucks -- opening or breaking down boxes and crates, handling trash cans, or hauling materials over city streets. The general nuisance test in Sec. 5.63.010(a) also covers any excessive, unnecessary or loud noise disturbing nearby residents. As a defense, an operator can show sound stayed under the zone-based limits in Sec. 5.63.030 -- 55 dB(A) daytime and 50 dB(A) at night in residential zones. Violations are misdemeanors enforced by police, Public Works, and Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department staff.
