Full Breakdown

Town of Babylon Code § 156-9A caps sound from air-conditioning and air-handling devices, condensers, cooling towers, fans, blowers, at 55 dB(A) anywhere past the real property boundary in residential zones, and 50 dB(A) measured within three feet of a living-area window. Multifamily and apartment zones use the 50 dB(A) window standard as their general ceiling. The limit doesn't apply if the unit's noise adds less than a 5 dB(A) bump over existing ambient sound. The Town of Babylon's Department of Environmental Control administers the program; violations are referred for abatement and civil or criminal penalties.

Violations & Fines

Enforced by the Dept. of Environmental Control; the Town can order abatement under § 156-17, and violations carry criminal or civil fines under §§ 1-15 through 1-17 per § 156-18.
