Ocala, FL Noise Ordinances: Aircraft Noise (2026)

Chapter 18's airport zoning article maps the area around the Ocala Regional Airport into noise zones tied to the Ocala Airport Zoning Map kept in the city building official's office, under § 18-107(a). Zone I sits outside the noise impact area, and § 18-107(b)(1) treats every land use there as clearly acceptable. Zone II is different: § 18-107(b)(2) requires all new residential construction there to conform to the Noise Exposure Standards in ID Circular 1390.2. Zone III is the most restrictive: § 18-107(b)(3) bars authorizing any new residential, school, church or hospital construction there at all.

New public use facilities anywhere in the mapped zones need at least a 15-decibel inside-to-outside noise reduction under § 18-107(b)(5), and every purchaser or lessee of property inside the mapped zones must receive a disclosure statement in the form the building official prescribes under § 18-107(b)(7). The noise zone rules sit alongside separate height-limit zones (primary, horizontal, conical, approach and transitional) mapped under § 18-105, and any land use that would interfere with aircraft operation, produce a hazardous glare, or cause electronic interference with airport navigation signals is barred outright under § 18-106(a).

No permit for a structure or land use change in any of these zones may issue without building department review under § 18-108(b), and a property owner may seek a variance from the zoning board of adjustment, sitting as the airport zoning board of adjustment, under § 18-109.
