Woodbridge, NJ Noise Ordinances: Aircraft Noise (2026)

Section 3-8.12 lists the noise sources excused from the operational performance standards set in Sections 3-8.10 (residential decibel limits) and 3-8.11 (commercial/industrial decibel limits). Item (g) on that list is simply 'Noise of aircraft flight operations,' placed alongside other categories the Township chose not to regulate locally: stationary emergency signaling devices, religious bells and chimes, emergency utility work, motor vehicle race tracks, the National Warning System, public celebrations, public roadways, railroads and the unamplified human voice. Because the exemption is unconditional, no daytime or nighttime decibel ceiling, and no curfew hour, applies to aircraft under this chapter. This reflects the reality that municipalities have no authority to regulate aircraft noise directly; the Federal Aviation Administration occupies that field under federal law, and any complaint about flight noise over Woodbridge is not enforceable through the Township's own Noise Code sections 3-8.1 through 3-8.17.
