Amplified music rules in San Angelo, TX β also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances β set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
San Angelo requires a police permit to operate vehicle-mounted amplified sound systems under Sec. 8.01.006. Other amplified music must comply with the general noise ordinance, Sec. 8.01.005, especially the 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. window.
Two provisions govern amplified sound. Sec. 8.01.006 makes it unlawful to operate a stereo, loudspeaker, sound truck, or amplification system mounted on a motor vehicle without a permit from the chief of police; permits run no longer than 12 hours, are non-transferable, and each day of violation is a separate offense. All other amplified music, whether backyard speakers, live bands, or PA systems, falls under Sec. 8.01.005 and must not become an unnecessary, loud, or prolonged disturbance. Noise during the 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. window is presumed to disturb neighbors.
Operating vehicle-mounted amplification without a permit, or violating the noise ordinance, is a misdemeanor fined up to $500 under Sec. 1.01.009. Each day is a separate offense.
