Amplified music in Tarpon Springs is governed by the Chapter 12 loud and raucous noise standard. Permitted special events are exempt, but unpermitted amplified sound that disturbs others can be cited.
Chapter 12, Article I of the Tarpon Springs Code prohibits any loud and raucous noise, including amplified music, that disturbs the peace, comfort, or repose of others. Bass that is plainly audible at neighboring property lines, outdoor concerts, and live entertainment at marinas or restaurants frequently generate complaints. The ordinance specifically exempts sound from parades, fireworks displays, and other special events for which a city permit has been obtained. Bars, restaurants, and event venues hosting amplified music must control levels especially after 10 p.m. and may be subject to additional licensing conditions. Police can require sound to be lowered immediately upon complaint.
Officers can order immediate volume reductions; written citations and Code Enforcement fines apply for refusal or repeat offenses, with progressive penalties for businesses.
