Dade City, FL Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 42-33(b)(3)c of the Dade City Code of Ordinances prohibits engaging in construction, drilling, repair, alteration, demolition, land clearing or land-filling operations in a manner that annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of a reasonable person of normal sensibilities during the nighttime hours set out above. on Friday and Saturday nights and on nights before federal holidays, giving contractors a later cutoff heading into the weekend. Two carve-outs apply: the restriction does not reach emergency work performed by a public service utility, and it does not reach work covered by a separate city permit approved for that purpose.

It also expressly does not apply to domestic power tools, which are separately restricted by § 42-33(b)(3)e to the same nighttime window, so a homeowner running a lawn or garden tool at night is governed by the power-tool clause rather than the construction clause. As with the animal-noise provision, this is a conduct-based standard rather than a decibel test: an inspector does not need a sound meter reading to cite equipment running inside the curfew. Enforcement follows § 42-35(c): a verbal warning to the property owner or responsible person comes first, with a civil citation available if the activity continues or recurs. The ordinance traces to Ord. No. 2014-05, adopted May 27, 2014, and was carried forward by Ord. No. 2021-18, adopted October 26, 2021.
