Construction hours in Georgetown, TX โ sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances โ set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Georgetown's Noise Control ordinance (Chapter 8.16) historically required a permit for nighttime construction but did not set explicit daytime construction hours. In 2025 the City proposed amending the exemptions in Section 8.16.080 to permit construction and landscaping between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Construction noise in Georgetown is governed by Chapter 8.16 (Noise Control). As reported when the Police Chief presented proposed revisions in March 2025, the ordinance required a permit for nighttime construction but did not clearly address daytime construction activity, and the general decibel caps in Section 8.16.030 are difficult to apply to construction because equipment such as a jackhammer can momentarily reach around 130 decibels. To resolve this, City Council reviewed exemptions that would allow private construction work and landscaping/lawn-care equipment between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. The City formally placed an ordinance 'amending Section 8.16.080 of the Code of Ordinances to update noise control exemptions' on its June 2025 Council agendas for second reading, with the penalty applied under Section 1.08.010. Until the amended language is confirmed in effect, contractors should treat 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. as the practical daytime window, observe the residential daytime cap of 63 decibels where measurable, and obtain any required permit for nighttime work. Because these provisions were actively being revised in 2025, verify the adopted hours directly with the City before relying on them.
Enforced by Georgetown Code Compliance (512-930-3606) and Police. A Chapter 8.16 violation is a Class C misdemeanor with penalties under Section 1.08.010. Nighttime construction without a permit, or work outside adopted exempt hours, can draw a citation.
