Georgetown Code Section 10.16.085 prohibits parking a vehicle in the front or side yard of a residential property except on a driveway or other approved surface. Driveways and access connections are also regulated by the city's right-of-way and development standards.
The City of Georgetown Code of Ordinances Section 10.16.085 makes it a violation to park, or allow to be parked, a vehicle in the front or side yard of a residential property except on a driveway or other approved (paved or otherwise authorized) surface. In practice this means residents must keep vehicles on an actual driveway rather than on the grass, dirt or landscaped areas of the front or side yard. This rule works together with the street restrictions in Section 10.16.080.A, which keep trailers, RVs and commercial vehicles off the adjacent residential street and right-of-way. Construction of new driveways and driveway approaches that connect to a city street falls under the city's Public Works right-of-way regulations and the Unified Development Code, which set standards for driveway location, width and surfacing. Blocking a sidewalk or a public right-of-way with a vehicle parked across a driveway apron can also draw enforcement. Code Compliance handles yard-parking complaints through askGTX and may file a Municipal Court complaint if the vehicle is not moved to an approved surface.
Parking on an unapproved yard surface can lead to a Code Compliance complaint and, if uncorrected, a Municipal Court filing requiring the owner or occupant to appear. Officers commonly give first-time offenders time to correct the issue. Report through askGTX.
