Georgetown's Code of Ordinances bars parking travel trailers, camper trailers, boat trailers, motor homes, buses and similar large vehicles on any street or right-of-way within a residential district, or within 300 feet of a residence in a residential district.
Under the City of Georgetown Code of Ordinances Section 10.16.080.A, it is a violation to park or leave standing a commercial vehicle, truck tractor, road tractor, trailer, semi-trailer, pole trailer, utility trailer, house trailer, travel trailer, camper trailer, boat trailer, motor home, bus, or special mobile equipment upon any street or right-of-way within a residential district, or within 300 feet of the property line of a residence located in a residential district. This street and right-of-way restriction is what most directly affects recreational vehicles and boats parked at the curb in front of a home. Separately, Section 10.16.085 prohibits parking any vehicle in the front or side yard of a residential property except on a driveway or other approved surface, so an RV or boat cannot simply be moved onto the grass to avoid the street rule. Georgetown also enforces additional standards for where vehicles may be stored on a lot through its Unified Development Code. Code Compliance Officers handle these violations through the city's askGTX reporting system and may file a complaint in Municipal Court if the vehicle is not relocated.
Code Compliance Officers cannot issue citations directly but can file a complaint in Georgetown Municipal Court, requiring the property owner or occupant to appear and answer the charge. Officers commonly give first-time offenders time to relocate the vehicle voluntarily before pursuing court action.
