Rancho Cordova, CA Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Chapter 6.68 exempts most noise sources from its dBA limits, but construction is the one exemption written with its own clock. RCMC § 6.68.090(E) lets construction, repair, remodeling, demolition, paving or grading noise run only outside the barred window: no work between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights, and the Friday cutoff starts even earlier, 8:00 p.m. Friday through 7:00 a.m. Saturday is off-limits, as is 8:00 p.m. Saturday through 7:00 a.m. the following Sunday, and all of Sunday after 8:00 p.m.

That leaves a daytime window of roughly 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends for legal work. The code carves out one narrow exception: if an unforeseen or unavoidable condition arises mid-project and the work must continue to reach a safe stopping point, the contractor or owner may keep machinery running past 8:00 p.m. only until that specific phase is finished, to avoid failing an inspection or creating undue financial hardship. Outside that carve-out, running equipment past the cutoff is a straight code violation, not a permit question; there is no separate construction-noise permit to apply for.

Enforcement runs through the same Chapter 6.68 machinery as every other noise complaint: the Rancho Cordova chief of police, the city health officer, or their representatives investigate a complaint under RCMC § 6.68.190, and violators get a written notice specifying the section violated and a deadline to correct it before the infraction is charged.
