Under SMC 9.56.050 standard exceptions to general noise limits, the operation of residential power equipment — defined to include mechanically powered saws, sanders, drills, grinders, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, edgers and similar tools — is permitted only between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Outside these windows, construction noise must comply with the general dBA limits in SMC 9.56.040. Commercial construction projects subject to a building permit are governed by the same time windows unless a noise variance is granted under SMC 9.56.060.
