Corona Municipal Code Chapter 9.36 establishes objective decibel standards measured at the receiving property line, with separate limits for residential, commercial, and industrial zones during day and night periods. Residential zones are limited to 55 dBA daytime and 45 dBA nighttime.
Corona's noise ordinance, Chapter 9.36 of the Municipal Code, uses both subjective (plainly audible / disturbance of peace) and objective (dBA) standards to evaluate noise complaints. The objective receiving-property-line limits are: residential zones 55 dBA daytime (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and 45 dBA nighttime; commercial zones 65 dBA daytime and 60 dBA nighttime; and industrial zones 75 dBA daytime and 70 dBA nighttime. These are A-weighted decibels measured with a Type 1 or Type 2 sound level meter using slow response. The standard is exceeded if the cumulative duration above the limit is more than 30 minutes in any hour, or if any 5-minute Leq exceeds the limit by 5 dBA, or any single peak exceeds the limit by 20 dBA. Impulsive sounds (gunshots, hammering) and pure tones (whining, humming) trigger 5 dBA penalties added to the measurement. Exemptions include emergency work, construction during permitted hours, school activities, parades, and sounds from authorized public safety sirens and alarms. Persistent measurable violations are documented by Code Enforcement and prosecuted as administrative violations or misdemeanors under Corona MC 1.20 and 9.36.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Corona code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
