Corona, CA Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 17.84.040(D)(2) of the Corona Municipal Code sets the city's construction-hours cutoff inside its noise performance standards chapter. Construction noise, defined broadly as noise that is disturbing, excessive or offensive and rises to a nuisance for persons of normal sensitivity living nearby, generated by any tools, machinery or equipment used in connection with construction operations, cannot occur between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays and federal holidays the quiet window widens further, running from 6:00 p.m. all the way to 10:00 a.m. the following morning.

The provision sits alongside, but is distinct from, the general property-maintenance noise exemption in Section 17.84.040(E)(4), which lets routine yard and property upkeep run from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday; construction work does not get that exemption and must instead stop at the earlier evening cutoffs and stay off entirely through the longer Sunday and holiday window. The rule applies citywide to any construction operation, whether a homeowner's remodel or a commercial job site, and does not carve out an exception for permitted work: a valid building permit authorizes the work itself but does not override the hours restriction.

As with the rest of Chapter 17.84, the standard exists to protect residential and other sensitive land uses named in Section 17.84.040(B)(8), such as single and multi-family residences, hospitals, convalescent homes, libraries and school classrooms, from disruptive job-site noise outside the hours residents can reasonably expect quiet.
