Section 164-5 makes it unlawful to emit noise beyond your property line above zone-specific limits. A residential-zone source is capped at 55 dBA into a residential zone by day and 45 dBA at night, 55 dBA into a commercial zone, and 62 dBA into an industrial zone; commercial sources are capped higher, and industrial sources highest, topping out at 70 dBA into another industrial zone. No source may exceed 80 decibels at any time regardless of background noise, and impulse noise is separately capped at 80 dB peak at night and 100 dB peak at any time. The Health Department enforces these limits with sound-level meters calibrated annually.
