Fort Myers, FL Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Code of Ordinances Chapter 54 (Nuisances), Article V (Noise) contains no leaf-blower-specific section, no time-of-day window for power lawn equipment, and no decibel cap for blowers. Sec. 54-196 instead provides a catch-all standard: any noise 'audible beyond the premises' is a nuisance, and the enumerated list of 'loud, disturbing, and unnecessary noises' covers unmuffled engines and similar power equipment. Practically, gas and battery leaf blowers may be used during normal daytime hours by homeowners and licensed landscapers; very early-morning (pre-dawn) or late-evening use can be cited as a nuisance under Sec. 54-196. There is no city-imposed registration of landscape contractors specifically for noise control, although contractors must hold a Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) license and Lee County business tax receipt. Florida law does not currently preempt local leaf-blower regulation, but Fort Myers has not adopted a leaf-blower ordinance. HOAs and condominium associations within Fort Myers may impose stricter hours via their covenants.
