Full Breakdown

HMC 6.24.050(H) exempts noise from air-, electric- or gas-driven domestic tools, including lawn mowers and edgers, radial arm, circular and table saws, and other similar lawn or construction tools, from the noise ordinance, but only between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Leaf blowers, air- or gas-driven lawn equipment, fall within this 'other similar lawn tools' language. Vehicle-repair tools are excluded from the exemption. Outside the listed hours, or when using excluded equipment, lawn tool noise loses its exemption and is measured against the citywide limits in HMC 6.24.030.

Violations & Fines

Running a leaf blower or other lawn tool outside the exempt hours (6 a.m.-9 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekends) forfeits the exemption and is enforceable as a noise violation under HMC 6.24, subject to citation.
