Vermilion Parish, LA Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

The Police Jury adopted a noise control code that applies to sound originating from, or received by, any property in the unincorporated areas of the parish (§ 26-64). Section 26-68 sets the hours for landscaping and yard maintenance equipment, and it is the only place the Code addresses equipment of this kind. It does not name leaf blowers, so a blower is treated as yard maintenance equipment.

On residential property the rule is a flat nighttime ban: no operation between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Motorized equipment must run with a muffler at all times. During the permitted hours, yard equipment on residential property is not subject to the sound-level limits of § 26-65, so a homeowner running a blower at midday is not measured against Table I.

Commercial and industrial property carries a tighter standard. Equipment, excluding emergency work, cannot run within 250 feet of a residential property line between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on weekdays, or between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on weekends or federal holidays, unless the activity can meet the Table I limits. Between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. commercial and industrial users must meet Table I in any case. At all other times the Table I limits do not apply to this equipment. Section 26-63 defines the weekend as beginning on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and ending on the following Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

Section 26-67(1) exempts agricultural activities that are properly muffled, which matters in a rice and crawfish parish where field equipment runs early. The variance categories in § 26-70 cover private celebrations, nighttime construction and homeowner construction, not landscaping.
