Warrick County, IN Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Section 158.03(B) of the Warrick County Code, adopted by the Board of Commissioners under Ordinance 2023-14 on July 24, 2023, makes it unlawful to operate 'any mechanically powered saw, drill, sander, grinder, lawn or garden tool, lawnmower, or similar device used outdoors' between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. 'in such a manner that will disturb or annoy any reasonable person nearby.' Gas or electric leaf blowers fall squarely within 'lawn or garden tool,' so running one during the curfew window is unlawful if a reasonable neighbor would be disturbed; the code sets no separate daytime decibel cap for these devices, relying instead on the disturbance standard plus the chapter's general prohibition in § 158.02 against noise that 'unreasonably annoys, disturbs, injures, or endangers' a neighbor's comfort, health, or property value.

The curfew applies only in unincorporated Warrick County; Boonville, Newburgh, Chandler, Elberfeld, Lynnville, and Tennyson set their own town rules. Section 158.06 exempts sounds incidental to agricultural activities and emergency work needed to prevent or address property damage. Enforcement runs through the Warrick County Sheriff's Office under § 158.07, with citations filed in Warrick Superior Court, County Division, by the Code Enforcement Officer or the County Attorney. Because § 158.03(B) is not one of the sections carved out for the enhanced vehicle-noise fine schedule in § 158.99(A), a violation is punished under the general penalty in § 158.99(B): a fine of up to $2,500, with each day of continued violation treated as a separate offense.
