West Bloomfield, MI Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Section 15-141(d)(4) and (5) single out lawn, tree and landscape work, specifically including the mowing of lawns, blowing of refuse or leaves, and removal or trimming of trees, as an exception that may exceed the Township's baseline 85/75 dBA noise limits, but only within set hours. A paid lawn service, defined as an individual or company with one or more employees providing grounds keeping services for remuneration, may run gas or electric powered equipment between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, or government holidays.

Paragraph (4) also caps equipment intensity directly: using more than two gas-powered machines at the same time on a single property is prohibited. Paragraph (5) gives homeowners doing their own lawn and landscape work, including leaf blowing, a longer window: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and government holidays, an hour longer at each end than the commercial-service window. The rule sits within Section 15-141, most recently amended by Ordinance No. C-755, Section 1, adopted September 12, 2011, in Chapter 15's public-peace article.

Because no separate fine attaches to this subsection, violations, whether running blowers before the opening hour or after the closing hour, or a lawn crew using three or more gas machines on one property, default to Section 1-10's general misdemeanor penalty.
