Jackson County, MI Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

The county's only codified nighttime noise standard sits inside the Parks and Recreation Commission Ordinance rather than a general county noise code, because Jackson County has no county-wide noise ordinance separate from its individual townships. , no one in a Commission campground may cause, create, or make any noise or disturbance which is a hindrance to the peace, quiet and tranquility of the camping area. That curfew applies specifically to the campgrounds the Commission operates, such as Vandercook Lake and Wolf Lake county parks, not to residential neighborhoods outside the park system.

Chapter VI, Section 7 backs this up with a broader, round-the-clock rule for all Commission property: no one may operate a sound amplification device, public address system or amplified instrument without the Director's permission, and any playing that does happen may not be at a volume or in a manner that annoys or disturbs the quiet, comfort or repose of persons in the vicinity. The same section separately bars honking a vehicle horn for anything but an imminent-danger warning, intentionally squealing tires, and keeping an animal that causes frequent or loud noise disturbing others nearby.

Because both rules are chapters of the Park Ordinance, enforcement runs through Commission Police and the Parks Director rather than a county noise inspector, and both provisions carry the same countywide-park penalty found in Chapter XII.
